DescriptionI can't get enough Ed McGuinness comic art and when this popped up I wasn't able to resist. A DPS with a large Hulk image getting ready to square off against Xemnu and his evil hoard of (Kirby inspired) monsters? Yes, please! This was from a truly crazy part of the story line (even by Jeph Loeb standards) where the Impossible Man creates mass havoc and combines Hulk and Red Hulk into the Compound Hulk. Like this story or not, you can't deny that the art was absolutely incredible.Hey James (Mr. DPS) - this post was inspired by you! Social/Sharing |

If Ed had followed Gary Frank's incredible run on Hulk, he would have fulfilled my dream sequence of art runs. Trimpe, Buscema, Byrne, Keown, Frank, and then McGuinness. Wow, what a line up! That's okay, better late than never. Ed is definitely one of my faves. Great DPS buddy!

Thanks! As good as the Hulk looks here, I would have bought it for the Kirby monsters alone!

Badass! That's what I look for in a killer DPS. A large bold clean image that makes you stop in your tracks mid-book!

Special widescreen image needed to contain such larger than life Kirby creations that made the story worthwhile. Mcguiness doesn't lose sight that the Hulk came out of that same Marvel Monster tradition and draws each figure as tight and powerful as his Hulk image. Extra credit to Vines for keeping the monster artwork pretty with varying lineweights of the early Marvel age.

I love this issue! I recently re-read it, and when I got to this two page spread, I thought, Oh man, how cool would it be to own the OA for this! And it's yours! Major congrats!!

I had the same thing after I saw this pop up on Albert's site and snapped it up as quickly as possible! Great minds ... Thanks Paul!

You have to say this about Jeph Loeb - regardless of what people may think of some of his stories (I'm looking at you, Ultimatum), he gets the best artists in the business to work with him. Maybe because he lets them cut loose with awesome spreads like this one. Congrats!

Careful or you're going to make James jealous and he'll buy all the Hulk art! (also, love the Kirby-esque monsters)

That is sage advice, thank you. I needed to be reminded of my place in the DPS kingdom. All hail King James!

That is very humbling. I don't know if that is true, but I do love what I have (and more to come) and very much appreciate the sentiment. Thanks!

One of the coolest pages from Ed's run! I'd love to see him do a full book with Hulk and Kirby's classic monsters.

Don't you hate it when a Kirby Krackle portal opens up and Kirby monsters pour out? Yeah, me neither. Cause it's awesome. ;) McGuinness killed this DPS. I love his layout, and with that fantastic perspective and angle. I can see why you had to have this page. Awesome score. Monstrous congrats!
