DescriptionThis is the most important addition my collection has ever had. There are many accepted definitions of a 'grail'. For some it's a page from your favorite artist, or favorite character... or favorite artist drawing your favorite character! For others it may be a cover or page from your favorite comic. They're all good as a grail is a personal thing for all of us.This is my ultimate grail. It's my favorite page from my favorite comic of all-time. It's the comic responsible for who I am today. This is not an exaggeration... it started everything for me. I'll wager if you're a member of CAF, you know exactly what I'm talking about. I obsessed over this comic throughout the years. (in a good way, lol) I have two copies of the book and have commissioned artists to do recreations of the cover that you'll find elsewhere in my gallery. I wrote a well received article where I pay tribute the comic and it's main creators, Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, Don Heck, and Mike Esposito. I particularly focus on Heck and the impact the comic had on my life. As a lad I gobbled up every single page of this book, engrossed by the pace of the storytelling, thrilled by the tension building in each panel. But I particularly devoured this page. What an evil genius Baron Zemo must be to construct a bomb of such magnitude that it could fell both Thor AND Iron Man! Those last two panels burned in my psyche forever. It has been a lifelong quest to obtain this piece in particular. I actually had many dramatic bites of the apple in my pursuit, and finally... it's home. I hope you all like it. Thanks for taking the time to read this and share in this moment. I'm very appreciative of CAF's own Bill Cox and Mike Burkey for making it happen. Ironically it all started with a coverless copy of the reprint in Marvel Triple Action (1972) that I found in an old Barber Shop at age 8. I still have that comic (it's where the scan of the interior page came from!). If you wish you can read more about this in that article I wrote here... https://geek-genie.com/don-heck-a-tribute/?fbclid=IwAR2ksINcN9Cn21qouxTEXyp-lSAYbjHYvZpgtX4M_lZ8K9EBM4rNDpIIapM Social/Sharing |

Larry, a stellar acquisition of a historic and classic Avengers page. I am so happy for you my friend. I felt your passion for this page in your description. The emotional satisfaction from obtaining a grail piece is indescribable, unless you are lucky enough to have experienced it firsthand. You are a great guy and i'm so glad you achieved this great milestone. Bravo.

This is what our hobby is all about! Major congratulations on finding your lifelong grail page. Where do you go from here?
It's a great page, and your description is wonderful and moving. I hope this page continues to bring you joy now that it's found its way home. I also know what it's like to have grail art that provides a throughline to our childhood awe and wonder. It's like having a magic talisman to help us stay rooted through life's changing fortunes and circumstances.
It's true that every time a comic art collector acquires a long sought grail, you hear a bell, and an angel gets his wings!

Once a year, return to the barber shop just to sit quietly. (More often if you need a cut.)

Wonderful page. I loved Heck's Avengers work from this period and I kick myself for passing up an early Avengers page not long ago. Bravo!

Congeatulations. I get it and your story echors my own. For me, it was the Marvel Triple Action reprint of Avengers 26 that opened my imagination to a wonderful world. I quickly found the Legion but Don Heck and A26 still holds a special place in my heart. I have copies of the story in Greek, in Spanish, French etc but to own a page is a very special feeling. Fame it, hang it on a wall and I guarantee a big goofy grin will cross your face each and every time you walk by. A Grail occours when the right person has the right art for all the right reasons. ENJOY
