Description

Back in the 90s, Michael Whelan produced a set of 3 digital images in his Passage series for Mithril Publishing. Once the fine art prints were created, his original computer artwork was destroyed.

The prints were offered for sale in limited edition runs, but when Mithril went out of business, most of the prints were returned to the artist in lieu of payment.

This is an original Michael Whelan painting from 2002 revisiting the idea from one of the Mithril prints. The figure in the foreground is the most obvious change.

Absolutely breath taking. Michael is the reason I became an artist. He never ceases to strike wonder in my child like mind no matter how old I get.

Wow! Gorgeous painting by Michael Whelan! The classical design of the winding staircase is so lyrical and then it begins to rot and fall apart at the top. It's such a striking image, beautifully rendered. What a great pick-up!
