DescriptionI recently purchased these three Rusty Riley strips from Heritage. I've loved Frank Godwin's amazing ink work for years and finally pulled the trigger on these. The top two images are from the same story arc, while the last one is from a completely different time period. It's funny that the middle aged character in both stories is wearing exactly the same outfit (and looks pretty similar). I assume Godwin used the same model and costume!Social/Sharing |

Nice strips! Godwin used himself as the model as he often did. He would use his children as well as models in the strips.

Thank you for the insight Thomas. That makes a lot of sense! I do the same thing all the time.

These are terrific! I think I bid one one or two of these myself... The way Godwin indicates water is so good and the faces and poses are fantastic

Thanks- I agree with all of the above. And how about the wood grain in #2? I've noticed that Godwin's strongest suit is drawing older men, and this is a great example of that.

Oh yes, he's a master at indicating wood grain, tree bark, foliage etc. And the bulldog mugs he comes up wth for the old men are priceless! Love the portraits of Rusty and his young male and female friends as well.
