DescriptionThis new hybrid is a tribute to the director J. Lee Thompson and the most peculiar Italian Disney comic book writers ever, Guido Martina.Mackenna's Gold is a 1969 western film directed by J. Lee Thompson, based on the novel of the same name, that tells the story of how the lure of gold corrupts a diverse group of people. In Alberto's amazing illustration, we see Papirone Manibuche de' Paperoni, who first (and probably only) appeared in the 1955 story "Paperino e l'uomo del West" (Donald Duck and the man of the West) written by Guido Martina and illustrated by G.B. Carpi, described as Scrooge's twin brother, who's quite the opposite of his sibling in almost every sense of the word (benefactor, philanthropist, generous...). In the additional images, you'll find the usual magnificent digitally colored piece by Lavoradori himself, plus a photo of the work in progress, with partial inks. I love them both, particularly the WIP, which allows us to see how Alberto manages to continue breathing life into his pieces, also with ink.
