Description

This new hybrid is a tribute to the director Lucio Fulci and Bill Peet, a Disney story writer and animator.

"The Beyond" is a 1981 Italian Southern Gothic supernatural horror film directed by Lucio Fulci, and starring Catriona MacColl and David Warbeck. Its plot follows a woman who inherits a hotel in rural Louisiana that was once the site of a horrific murder, and which may be a gateway to hell.

Alberto used Madam Mim (from The Sword in the Stone, a film for which Peet was the sole developer, drawing the characters, writing the screenplays, and directing the actors’ voice performances) as the protagonist and a crocodile in place of the dog, recreating a shot from the movie (see attached images).

The scan, as usual, doesn't fully do justice to the piece due to the use of special materials (such as glazed paint) that the artist adopted specifically for the Hybrid series to make them even more special as original pieces.

In the additional images, you'll find the usual magnificent digitally colored piece by Lavoradori himself, plus a weird sci-fi bonus sketch on the back.

Awesome commish! Notnfamiliar with the flick but love the comparative imagery. That and the perspective really adds to the eternal nature the doom in the story implies. Congrats!

If I'm not wrong, Madam Mim's actual look was pretty different from this :) And the crocodile one of her many transformations. Great piece by Alberto!

Looks like the sides going towards the vanishing point are drawn to look like film reel sides with the perforations.
