Description--- Donald Duck's 90th anniversary (1934-2024) ---Probably the people who read Disney comics outside of Italy are aware of Bruno Enna and Fabio Celoni's adaptations of both Dracula and Frankenstein, also published in the English language, but they may not know that there is another one to complete the trilogy: "Lo strano caso del Dottor Ratkyll e di Mister Hyde", inspired by R.L. Stevenson's gothic novella "Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde". The story has been only published in Italy (Topolino magazine #3070/3071 and a volume reprint, with halftone screens instead of colors) because at a certain point it's been banned by Disney so it will never be reprinted (either in Italy or other countries), and the reason for the ban lies in this commission, reproducing a sequence in the story, that I asked Fabio to close the (Gothic Trilogy) circle since I already own two color pieces by him about both Dracula and Duckenstein. He most appropriately named this piece "The Haunted Page". If you're still wondering what's so wrong here that required a ban, it's the transformation... a Disney policy prohibits the transformation of a character into another character. Going back to the story, Enna and Celoni's adaptation of Stevenson's novella analyzes the distance between two primordial natures: mouse-like and duck-like, that is, the natural distance that exists between Mickey Mouse's "logical, rational, comically controlled" attitude and the "irascible, instinctive, comically out of control" attitude of Donald Duck. Mickey is not "Good" and Donald is not "Evil". The two, however, are part of the same Disney nature, which sees logic as opposed to instinct. And so, at the beginning of the story, the two authors deliver the reader into the hands and sagacious mind of the Lawyer Pipperson to let us discover, panel after panel, the mystery that binds the two protagonists of this adventure: the renowned scholar and philanthropist Henry Ratkyll and the gruff and disturbing character of Donald Hyde. All of this is the fantastic and misty atmosphere of 19th-century London. For this commission, the idea was to create something different than Dracula and Duckenstein, and when Fabio proposed the transformation sequence in the form of a painted page, I knew it was it. And I believe the result is masterfully powerful. Please also find in my gallery other pieces related to the Gothic trilogy: - Dracula painted cover - Duckenstein painted commission - Dracula/Jonathan Ratker convention sketch - Dracula/Phantom Blot convention sketch - Ratkyll & Hyde/Pipperson with axe convention sketch - Ratkyll & Hyde/Donald Hyde convention sketch - Duckenstein/Victor von Duckenstein & Growl convention sketch Huge thanks to Fabio and Marika! WOW! Dr. Rat and Mr.Duck!!! What a crazy notion--I love it! The whole idea of one cartoon character transforming into another is insanely cool! I love the sequence of panels here, where the Rat begins to pop out of the Duck's ear, then we see the Rat's ears pop out of the duck's face. Then the rat's tail pops out of the duck's rear end. Then finally the rat's head emerges from the Duck's head. Wow! That would make an awesome animated short! And didn't I read that the copyright on Mickey Mouse just ended? Hmmm.

it's true that Mickey Mouse's copyright ended, but it's related only the Steamboat Willie version ;)
and Disney already did an animated short with Mickey in the body of another character, Runaway Brain, but they pretend it doesn't exist... I believe that the policy that caused the ban of the comic was first created for the short cartoon
it's really a pity this story has been banned and so many people in the world will not be able to read it, it's the apex of the gothic trilogy by Enna/Celoni, a true masterpiece
