DescriptionI'd enjoyed putting together the "last issue spectacular" covers that Mitch did for me so much that I couldn't help but think about building out that 80's Crusaders universe. In actually looking at the superhero comics that Archie'd produced up to that point I was amazed at how many different, varied characters they have. Just picking out the characters for a new line-up was a lot of fun. The team had to have both Shields and I'm a big fan of Jaguar and the Comet but when it came to Comet it was deciding to use his costume for a failed relaunch. Something in between his classic costume and what he ended up wearing during the !mpact series. Since I didn't want to use the Fly I left Fly-Girl out and Darkling was a nice fill. CatGirl comes from an unpublished 15th issue of Blue Ribbons comics and Mister Midnight was a back-up in Crusaders #2 so I consider him fair game :) And because of the complete lack of minority heroes at Archie at the time I played fast and loose with O Vingador. He's really just Hangman comics translated into Portuguese for Brazilian reprints. I hope Crusaders fans approve :) I'm a big fan of TJ's work (can't imagine how he doesn't have a regular gig!) and I think he did a great job here. Great faces on Jaguar and CatGirl and Darkling looks beautiful. A wonderful "rising from the ashes" piece. Original size 11x17 ------------------------- In This Issue ... The Start Of A Bold New Era! The promise at the end of issue 17 has been fulfilled! After a few months hiatus the Mighty Crusaders are back and better than ever! Even though the team is no more after the events of last issue, when D.E.M.O.N. agents begin stealing a variety of high tech equipment it doesn't take long before Lancelot Strong - the Shield, the original Shield and the Comet to begin investigating. When the trail leads to a D.E.M.O.N. stronghold the trio calls in their comrade-in-arms the Jaguar, who arrives fresh from one of his archaeology digs with Brazil's own O Vingador in tow. Things get strange, though, when it's revealed that D.E.M.O.N. are trying to pierce the dimensional barriers. When the experiment goes awry things go from bad to worse - until help arrives in the form of former member Darkling and the mysterious Mister Midnight. The group is able to thwart terrorist organization's plans, but not before the machine reaches into the depths of time and pulls a she-devil out of time, CatGirl! Sensing a moment, the original Shield makes and offer ... and the Mighty Crusaders are reborn! But what is this great cosmic threat that Mister Midnight is alluding to and what has driven O Vingador to join the Crusdaers? This Issue's Cover ... The new line-up of Darkling, the Comet, Lancelot Strong - the Shield, the original Shield, O Vingador, the Jaguar, Mister Midnight and CatGirl. Social/Sharing |

Great dynamic layout and any cover that features the Shield in either uniform works for me. Sorry you left out Fly girl I happen to have 180 degree feelings on the Fly and his female partner.
Love Fly Girl and can't stand the Fly, I think it was the Honey West hair style. :) It's good to see the Hangman in the 40s uniform. Interesting uniform choice on the Comet, I'm still a big fan of the Reinman 60s take complete with Giant-Man boots.
Keep them coming.

I felt stuck in that I wanted to add new members but that 80's line-up are the all-stars. But since the Fly's are a team it was an easy way to make sure room for the new kids. And I'm sure they'll be back someday ;) (remember, I've loose plots up to issue #61)

Interesting uniform choice on the Comet,The Comet's costume comes from an old ad promising the return of the Crusaders. It seemed like a nice way to tie in Archie's relaunch with "my" relaunch.

I'm ashamed that it took me so long to see this! Love the re-design on The Comet. Jaguar looks incredible here! Awesome storytelling along with great art and lettering gives this a "Mighty" 5 star rating. I really need to hook up with TJ for a commission! Nice Kevin!

I dunno - fake comics? Seems weird. Cool - never heard of Mr. Midnight and the Comets' costume is great. Hangman can't miss either, whatever he's called.
