Description

To help celebrate the Caped Crusader's 75th anniversary in 2014, DC produced a number of variant covers for its titles that year. Jim Lee is said to have persuaded the preternaturally talented Korean artist Kim Jung Gi to do this fabulous ink and gray wash over light graphite cover for The Flash #33. A rare published superhero cover by a true modern comic art master!

OCTOBER 6, 2022 UPDATE: It was with shock and much sadness that I learned yesterday of the death of Kim Jung Gi, who passed away suddenly from a heart attack in Paris on Monday aged just 47.

Reports said that Kim was boarding a plane for New York, on his way to New York Comic-Con, when he started suffering chest pains and went into cardiac arrest.

Kim was known for his uncanny ability to draw immensely complex scenes entirely from memory. He was also very engaging and would spend lots of time at conventions sketching for fans - I'm glad that I got to meet him at the 2015 San Diego Comic-Con.

R.I.P. to a true master, taken from us way too soon. My deepest condolences to his family, friends and fellow fans.

Gene,

This is an amazing piece. I am sorry I wasn't as aware of this artist prior to his passing. His work was amazing and I appreciate you sharing this one with us.

I am shocked and saddened to read of Kim Jung Gi's most untimely passing, but the great art he has gifted us all will live on.
