DescriptionA recent impulse buy and I say "impulse" because I remember seeing it and liking it right away but at the same time not knowing exactly what it was I liked. A cool feeling in OA to have that instant "like" in a piece and I had a good time figuring out the "why" when I got it in hand :)First, it has mural-ish quality that I dig – you can picture it on the side of a building or something. There's lots of depth which brings a nice 3D, multi-layered, quality. Lots happening in between the building background to the Thing fist holding Prodigy. Kind of an organized chaos, in a good way. Just lots to look at as you move left to right and there's a real energy, too. A wacky concept ("Night of the Living Billboard!") but "wacky", as we know, can lead to some nice visuals :) I also like the sharp, angular lines throughout. Lastly, Stull's inks rock. Really dark and really precise and you gotta see it in person to appreciate. Slingers followed the events of Identity Crisis in the Spider-Man books and had these 4 (Prodigy, Hornet, Ricochet, and Husk) take on the costumed personas that Spidey used in that storyline. ChrisCross really did some great work and I'm glad to get an example – my first piece by him and by Stull. Pure fun having all 4 heroes up against evil billboard-coming-alive versions of Marvel heroes! Little off the beaten OA path, and as I write that, another reason why I like it – hope y'all do, too! Navigating your way around this hectic image is a heckuva lotta fun. The colorized pic really helps a lot. I didn't realize that was Cap's shield there! And is that the Beast? My favorite is the Thing, as he emerges, eyes aglow. And I totally agree with you that this is the kind of brilliant, over-the-top mural you would see on the side of a building. Great grab!

Good point on the colored image helping! And I totally agree - there's a lot to work through on this image, and agree as well, that that's part of the fun! Yup, got Cap, Beast, Thor, Mr. Fantastic, the Torch - all eyes aglow :) Only one I'm not sure about is the guy with the red head at the far left. In any case lotsa good and bad guys to make out. When I first saw it I even missed Husk, who's basically front and center! Thanks, Paul, and all, for the comments!

I see your point, it's a real eye-catching image. A very cool cover, and I really dig the bad good-guys. Evil Thor brandishing evil Mjolnir is pretty neat. Congrats on a nice impulse buy!

At first glance, I was so overwhelmed because there was too much going on for me eyes to focus. I then clearly saw the 3 characters on the right, who I don't recognize but reminded me of Thunderbotls characters. Then I thought, "Is that a scary version of The Thing? I then saw on the left, someone who looked like Reed Richards and that's when I looked up and noticed a big stretched out hand and figured I was right! I then noticed evil Thor. Whew, I'm tired!

Sit down, take a few deep breaths, get a glass of water - it should all be OK ;) Yeah man, Paul alluded to it, too - definitely lots to see and work through with this one...which I love about it! Not sure if you saw Husk either, cuz I didn't the first time I saw it - the black figure in front of billboard-Torch's blast! Thanks, Ruben, and get some rest :)

Even though I never read Slingers, I always LOVED Chriss Crosss work. Given the quality of his art and the dynamism of his storytelling, I always wondered why he never exploded like he deserved in the comic world. Cool example.

Totally agree, David! There's so much going on in this image, and CC manages to meld it all together perfectly. Not easy to do. And as you say, he can do it all :) Thanks for the add!
