DescriptionI don't normally post my purchases but I really like this great page from a cool and nostalgic 1977 Avengers issue. And those two top panels--wow.Filler or inventory stories in the 70s and 80s were very hit or miss. This one was one of the best though for several reasons. Firstly, the art was very good with some great battle pages/panels. I'm generally a Tuska fan anyway from his mid-70s to late 70s period and the inks by Pablo Marcos (what a great inker) nicely enhance Tuska's pencils. Secondly, while the story itself wasn't that special other than an excuse to stage some great fight scenes between IM and Hercules, this issue benefits from being right after the superlative Grim Reaper/Ultron issues and right before the great John Byrne Count Nefaria issues. Jim Shooter also made an attempt to add relevant dialogue that commented on the prior issues so it wasn't just a completed disconnected inventory issue. Thirdly, it was kind of cool to have the Champions guest star. While their own short-lived series had highs and lows, I still enjoyed it. And the Champions had also guest starred in Iron Man's own annual the year before in a pretty good issue. There was some stiff bidding on this page when it was on HA last year and I'm happy to have outlasted the competition. Social/Sharing |

I promise not to make a joke about lots of 'stiff bidding' on a page featuring a hot looking Black Widow...Too late. Its a quality page!

It may have been an excuse to stage Iron Man and Hercules fighting, but this page's purpose is to stage some great Black Widow action! Each of the four panels could be a splash! The action is compact in each panel as the action is bolder than what can be contained!

Top 2 panels are outstanding! 70's Marvel Hero vs Hero pages are in very high demand so the bidding makes sense.

Counselor, I am guilty of aiding and helping to drive this price higher. I am more aggressive going after pages that I can pair together since I already own page 2. These two pages would have been nice paired together, but, alas, that is not meant to be. I agree with your description. This is one of those issues where it was a great stand-alone inventory story that really had no cohesion between Perez and Byrne. These are great images of the Black Widow in action that Tuska drew, and I thank you for posting.
