DescriptionMarvel Giant Size and Annuals in the 70s were generally pretty good. This Annual had an interesting storyline that was tied to Tony Stark's family and a cool twist or two. The villain was mediocre but consistent with the story. The art of artist Don Newton was pretty good. I had never seen his art before and understand now he was mostly a DC artist. This page was especially impactful and memorable - clearly my favorite page of the issue. So I was very happy when it showed up on Heritage last year.Social/Sharing |

Rare Don Newton Marvel page! The top right panel has a Michael Golden feel from the Marvel Fanfare Iron Man story Michael drew.

Pretty rare Marvel Newton! You can tell the difference in how handsome Tony looks! The zip is cool too making it look high tech with mechanical screens.

Great page from a great story. I liked Arsenal as a villian.

Lucky guy to get the favourite page of the book. Not always happens. Extraordinary page by the way!

Loved this annual and loved this page. The bonus, as you know, was that Arsenal quickly poppled up over in Iron Man.

Actually, if I recall correctly, the Iron Man story came first (great Giffen art on that one), and the story of Arsenal was resolved here in the Annual. But it was indeed a surprising (and really unannounced) synergy between the two titles

I am not familiar with Newton's work but I see a lot of talent here, with great synergy with the inkers. Excellent use of zip-a-tone and the effect in the last panel is well thought out (those were the days when artists had to come up with their own ideas as to how to convey tech effects...). Question, are the three close ups in the middle stats of the same image?
