DescriptionMy absolute all-time favorite George Tuska Iron Man splash/page. My strong nostalgic connection to it is likely partly due to the very cool image and partly due to the powerful words which were fairly mature for your average 1970s comic.I believe it's also the largest Iron Man figure Tuska ever drew. Even the Colletta inks are especially solid and strong and not his usual wispy style. While I've only been a more serious art collector for the last 7 years, I've been looking for this page for over 20 years. What I gave up to acquire it was quite dear but . . . I got it. A thank you to Este at Lone Star Comics for acting as an intermediary. And a thank you to Robert Dennis for the cleaning of this 43 year old page. Postscript: Just recalled that Marvel liked this image enough that they used it for merchandising in the late 70s/early 80s, including a set of puffy (puffi) stickers in 1981. Attached is a pic of the Spanish version of the stickers. Social/Sharing |

As someone who has had the pleasure of dealing with you in the past, I know how passionate you can be about certain pieces of artwork. I can only imagine what it means to you to bring an end to this 20 year search. And I honestly don’t know if this artwork could have found a better home. Congratulations on this truly spectacular Iron Man splash. What Mantlo, Tuska, and Colletta, have left on this page is a perfect example of how powerful the combination of words and pictures can be. I hope you will enjoy this gem for a lifetime.

Had the same reaction you did to the Colletta inks--always jumps out to me when I see good work from him (and actually makes the bad jobs look worse). Great image and great writing on the page--classic!
