DescriptionThe now-classic splash...but this time, 100% Frank. One of my all-time favorite images. DKR is credited/blamed for ushering in the "grim and gritty" era of comics. But when I look at this splash, all I see is joy...pure joy. It also resonates with me even more now that I'm the father of a young daughter. Yes, I realize that the only thing I have in common with this Batman is that we're both old. My kid, though, is a little badass.My eternal thanks to my pal, Walter. And, of course, to Frank. I agree with your analysis. One thing that Dark Knight had that a lot of the grim & gritty types that followed didn't was a sense of "Wow!" and fun. As for this commission, um, Wow! Congrats.

Wow! I actually prefer the inks on this one over the published version; the inks on Batman's cowl and cape are much more finished.

Felix - you absolutely have to change the characterization of this piece; to call it a 'commission' almost seems insulting given how magnificent it is. What an unreal addition to your collection!

To my shame, I've never actually got round to reading this much-praised ground-breaking graphic-novel - even if I am familiar with its adultaion for it within the comics-collecting audience. Having seen a scan of the phenomenal mega-bucks sale of the (orginal) original, which reached a hammer price w-a-y beyond the reach of mortal men, I have to say that, as a piece of original artwork, this commission surpasses the (original) original. There are two winners in this scenario. The winner of the published original . . . and the guy who had the foresight to commission this (much-improved) re-do. Big, Big congrats to you, Felix.
