DescriptionLook--There on the wall! It's Spider-Man!!! Could there be a more iconic image of Spider-Man? Caught in the glare of a spotlight, clinging to a wall, surrounded by pistol-wielding cops. This is the Spider-Man we all know and love, a superhero feared and misunderstood by police and press alike. Jazzy Johnny Romita really captured that image perfectly in this 1969 Silver Age cover. No wonder this cover has become one of the iconic images of old web-head, used and reused in countless items, including posters, T-shirts, ashtrays and several book covers, including "The Art of Spider-Man Classic." When you first started unveiling your collection on CAF I couldn't even find the words to leave a comment... each piece just left me speechless. This is probably the piece I envy most of those you've shared. Just an astoundingly iconic example of my favorite character by one the greatest deleantors of Spider-Man ever, that not only defined his look for generations; but the look of the vast majority of Marvel characters to boot. A beautiful cornerstone of your collection. I can only dream of ever adding something like this to my collection. Congrats, and thanks for sharing!

In addition to its iconic (legendary, even?) status, this cover is flawless in concept, design and execution. Romita could really do no wrong at this point in his career. Can you imagine the Jazzy One standing up from his drawing table after finishing this on some cold November day in 1968 and saying "OK, that'll do"?

Back in the late ninties this cover was for sale for $5,000 in the Comic Buyers Guide. I drooled over it but just didn't have the money. It does my heart good though to see it displayed in the collection of such grace power and beauty. A Romita ASM Cover puts a collector on the top shelf.

In the past three years, your original art collection has rapidly become one of the GO TO galleries on this website. This cover brings back a lot of memories from my youth as it exposed me to Romita and his portrayal of the ASM when I first acquired this comic book. Prior to that, I had been an Andru aficionado and believed that he was the best penciller on the ASM. Your focus on collecting some of the best and most memorable covers of my youth make me come back to view your collection. Thank you for continuing to post the gems of your collection.

This cover reminds me of one of my favorites that Mike Wieringo did, during the Spiderhunt crossover - what an amazing piece of history, and one of the great Spidey covers that inspired so many to come. Gorgeous!
