DescriptionWhat makes a classic Marvel Bronze Age Cover? Start with a dramatic scene--Like a bruised and battered Daredevil comforting a dazed Black Widow in the rubble of a collapsed building. Then add an element of surprise--Unnoticed by them, the villainous Indestructible Man is rising up out of the rubble of a collapsed building. Finally, have it drawn by Gil Kane. Gil Kane was Marvel's go-to cover artist of the 1970's. Marvel used him on more covers than anyone. He did everything--Daredevil, Iron Man, Conan, Sub-Mariner, Tomb of Dracula, Amazing Spider-Man, Werewolf By Night, the list goes on and on. Hundreds of covers, all of them dramatic, intricate and memorable. Funny thing was, Kane often didn't draw the insides, just the covers. Apparently Marvel's editors were convinced all you need to sell a comic book was a Gil Kane cover. Looking at this one, you can see why.Social/Sharing |

As a kid, Gil Kane was my favorite Marvel artist, PERIOD! Even though I didn't know back then that I'd grow up to collect original art, his work was the first I learned to recognize on sight. If there were 20 comics on the rack, I could pick out all the Kane covers (because probably most were his anyway). I can't remember a single Kane cover I didn't like. This one (like many others you own) is quite simply a gem.

I do love a cover that tells a story all on its own, but also makes you want to read the issue to fill in the blanks. A wonderful addition to your incredible collection!

Perfect description of the Kane Marvel Cover recipe, Bill! How many times have I bought these simply on the strength of the cover grabbing me by the neck to the newsstand... And, with the Palmer ingredient on top of it, well...

Great cover - love the detail like the rip in widow's costume - and the artists initials on the plank!
