DescriptionI loved the Classic X-Men series. Every issue reprinted a favorite X-Men story, with some additional new material and a new cover. But, to me, what really sold the series was the covers. Artists like Arthur Adams, Mike Mignola, and here, Steve Lightle each contributed stunning covers that reimagined classic scenes from favorite storylines. This cover, for Classic X-Men #37, features the climactic confrontation between Jean Grey and the White Queen. Lightle did a masterful job portraying Jean's manifestation as the Phoenix overwhelming Emma Frost. A fantastic cover by the sometimes overlooked Steve Lightle. Special thanks to Gene Park!Social/Sharing |

Yes the exceptional covers drove this series and this cover is very indicative of that. Bravo!

Outstanding! I loved the covers, the quiet stories (wisely collected in the Vignettes tpbs), and the back covers! Such great comic book brilliance!

The Adams, Mignola, and Lightle cover runs were my favorite on this book. Scoring a Classic X-men cover from any of these three is getting harder and harder to do these days. Congrats on landing this one!

Gorgeous cover; Lightle is so underrated! I agree with you that this "reprint" series was special...great covers and often great back-up stories/added material as well.

Adding to the Chorus - Great covers but only so many with Phoenix prominent like this great Lightle cover - this is my favorite period for his work - Great pickup!

I'm in total agreement with your opinion of the Classic X-Men Covers... oh so good; by oh so many artists that made names for themselves on this book. I had a Lightle Classic X-Men cover siip through my fingers early in my collecting career, and it still rankles. Congrats, and thanks for sharing!

It is not easy following the legendary creators who drew these original books, but Lightle did a great job on the covers for this series and established a new identity for the reprint books while making tem his own. And, yes, for someone who drew the high profile Legion book after Keith Giffen, these Classic-in-their-own-right X-men covers and many other memorable series, Lightle is quite overlooked. Congratulations on an uncanny acquisition.

Yet another great cover! I loved Lightle's Classic X-Men covers, and agree that they are inexplicably overlooked. If you ever get tired of this one...

I agree with everything you wrote in the description! I will add that Mr. Lightle is as wonderful to talk with as his art is to behold!

I don't use this word often or lightly, but this cover is "ethereal." I am speaking of the way the two characters are drawn, the poses of their bodies, the expressions on their faces, and the beeautiful backgrounds. Just pure magic. Congratulations on a beautiful find!

Lightle was one of the great artists of his generation. I'm not sure why he doesn't have a larger body of work but he's been sorely missed.

Lady hottie alert...It's not sexist. Phoenix was born of fire and is just trying to make Emma White Hot.

These classic covers are now classic themselves, another great and memorable cover recalling some huge comic moments. Cheers!
