DescriptionMy special theme week continues with a gorgeous variant cover by the great Koi Pham featuring a very integral member of the Spider-Verse --- Miles Morales!(The regular cover was drawn by Sara Pichelli -- see add'l pic). With this historic #1 issue, Miles Morales officially began his career (and existence) in the regular Earth-616 Marvel Universe as .... SPIDER-MAN! How did he make the transition from the Ultimate Universe (Earth-1610) you ask? Oh man, it was a crazy time. All the realities basically collapsed, but some remnants survived, as did many heroes and villains. They ended up on Battleworld, which was a new reality created by none other than Doctor Doom, who had stolen the Beyonder's omnipotent abilities for himself. Doom managed to order the remnants of the separate realities into "domains" under his command as the God-Emperor of Battleworld ... or God Doom for short. Not bad for a guy who had craved world domination since he was a little boy doom-godling. Miles Morales ended up in a part of Battleworld that mixed both Earth-616's and Earth-1610's Manhattan into one land mass. Good times. Anyway, I just love this beautifully drawn cover. Such a wonderful blending of ink wash and watercolors as Spidey Miles throws an acrobatic punch at the silver-armored God-Emporer Doom. I'll see you all at Dueling Dealers later tonight! Is the young Spider-Man brave to stand up to the almighty God Doom, or simply foolish? Regardless, this is an excellent image of the greatness of Doom (Miles is cool too).

Miles has spunk, but Doom is just playing with toys at this point.

Very nicely drawn cover. Doom looks a lot like Thor, though after reading that plot synopsis in your description, I'm not gonna ask questions. Instead, I'll just enjoy the art! By the way, If this is the very first appearance of Miles Morales in the canon universe, you have yourself an extremely key piece of art right here, man. Congrats!

You know what? You're absolutely right! My description hinted at it, but this was Miles' very first appearance in the canon Marvel universe, which does make it very special. I love first appearances.

Your explaination of the intracacies of the Marvel Universe has my head spinning. But the art only brings me back to earth. Congrats.

I'm a big fan of Khoi's and always like seeing his stuff. 2 of the best hero and villain characters here in a great looking faceoff. Gotta love that Miles is upside down :) Figure work and pure illustration on him is particularly awesome. Nice way to ring in the new volume of Spidey! Congrats!

Secret Wars Storyline Alert! WHEEEE-OOOOOOO 🚨! This is an excellent cover by Pham, and I am always down for a Secret Wars reference, whether new or old. It's all good. God Doom would be one hell of a band name, imo. Oh, and Miles rules. Congrats!
