DescriptionAs was often the case artists did not have a publisher-supplied "template" available and drew the cover on standard illustration board. The art would either be adhered to a template with logo, text and crop marks added or if the image size was not just right, make a photographic stat of the art and place that on the template leaving the original art intact. It is rare for the art to be saved and only by the efforts of legendary Batman creator Jerry Robinson, a close friend of Ray's, was the art requested back and saved.Social/Sharing |

Fred Ray's Superman covers always feel "just right" to me. No lines need be added nor taken away.

One glorious piece of history. Wow, just wow, I am so glad these exist. Superman, WWII, supporting U.S. forces a true piece that transcends the art form. Incredible and thanks for sharing.

Would this be the oldest surviving Superman cover and by that I mean the Superman comic, not Action Comics or World's Finest?
By the way you can stop now, I doubt you can surpass this historic acquisition.

I called your Slapstick #1 cover a museum piece, and it is, then I flipped through your other pieces, and it appears all of them are museum pieces. This perhaps most of all. Wow!
