DescriptionAs I mentioned in the description of my Who's Who Cyborg entry original art, one of my all time favourite Teen Titans members is Cyborg, and with all due respect to any and every artist who has redesigned him in the years since his creation in 1980, none of them have ever looked as cool as the original design by Pérez! So it was incredibly difficult for me to know that one of my all-time favourite artists was responsible for this hideous design. I've always said, when a classic character design already exist and is loved by the masses, there is absolutely no reason to redesign it unless you come up with something that you can honestly say is even better than the original. In other words, unless you can improve on it. So how did the sleek and efficient original design turn into this bulky, clunky disaster?But you know what I really love about the comic book/art hobby? The fact that, as hard as it may sometimes be to believe, that somewhere out there there is a fan who actually loves the very same things we thought were terrible, and I guess we gotta respect that! Mind you, in almost all such cases, the primary reason for why those rare examples of fans who love what most fans despised, is simply because it was what they first were introduced to/grew up with, rather than because they honestly believe that the thing they love is because it's far nicer/better than the one most fans agree is best. Still, a good example of "different strokes for different folks", I suppose. In fact, and come to thing of it just now, I recall recently on Facebook seeing someone post a photo of a Cyborg commission they got from Tom, and it was THIS version of Cyborg you see here, not the classic Pérez version! This is my favorite hero card of this series. First exposure to Cyborg as a character and really like the then-modern take design even though it's not as iconic as the classic.

The 90s was a fun time to be collecting trading cards for me. Holograms, Foil Cards, See-Through Cards (is that what you called them?), 9 card connecting sets etc. This is a great pickup!
