DescriptionMay the 4th Be With You!!Jeffrey Brown created three cover concepts for his brilliant non-canon Star Wars picture book Darth Vader and Son (2012). I spoke to Jeffrey at last year's San Diego Comic-Con (2023) and was told that this was his preferred cover concept for the book, but, whoever had the final say (I don't remember if it was Chronicle Books or Lucasfilm) wanted more physical separation between Luke and Vader (as opposed to Luke being tightly wrapped around Vader's head & shoulders). They also wanted some pops of color, which is why the scene of Luke walking alongside Vader with both eating brightly colored ice cream cones was ultimately chosen instead. Lucasfilm bought all of the published original artwork to the book, but, the three cover concepts submitted for approval (as well as an unspecified number of unused versions of the final cover) still exist in the wild, including this one (signed & dated 8/31/11 on the back) - very happy to have picked it up last summer! This would have been a great cover choice as well. It would have been even cooler if the ice cream colors matched their lightsabers ;)

Great acquisition. So brilliantly put together. Odd that the art for Vader and Son was bought, but Vader's Little Princess wasn't...
