DescriptionWhen 2000AD started, Massimo Belardinelli drew Dan Dare, and Dave Gibbons drew the Harlem Heroes, a story of a violent futuristic sport. From Prog 36, they swapped strips, effectively, with Belardinelli drawing the sequel series to Harlem Heroes – writer Tom Tully’s even more, ludicrously violent sport of Inferno, set in 2078. This was my favourite 2000AD strip, and Belardinelli was perfect for the weird, futuristic cityscapes and arenas, and the gore and agony of the game itself. Here, the Harlem Hellcats are on their way to the ‘Firebowl’ (stadium) of the Shafer's Sickles, their first opponents in the fourth division of the Inferno league.
