Description3 years ago, I traded away the spectacular cover art to the X-Men: Mutant Genesis TPB by Jim Lee and Scott Williams, which was a painful-but-necessary sacrifice to obtain a mega want list item. Unfortunately, letting that piece go left a gaping hole in my collection, as the duo's work on the X-Men was a cornerstone of my comic reading experience in the early 1990s.I did pick up a different Lee/Williams X-Men page last year to try and fill that void, but, it didn't quite do the trick (I'm still thrilled to have it, though!) And, with the OA market in full melt-up mode since then, I thought my Lee/Williams X-Men ship had sailed. But, fortuitously, a situation arose recently where the owner of this stunning battle page was very interested in a substantial piece from my collection that I was willing to let go, and we were able to make a true win-win deal that made both of us happy (grazie, M!) Original artwork to Uncanny X-Men #258 page 14. Story by Chris Claremont. Pencils by Jim Lee. Inks by Scott Williams (who confirmed that the inks are 100% his on this page, as Joe Rubinstein lent a hand on this issue). Letters by Tom Orzechowski (my all-time fave!) Features Wolverine battling Psylocke (for me, the two characters I would most want to see on a Lee/Williams X-Men page) and a phantom version of Jean Grey (resulting from Psylocke's mind control). The Psylocke/Mandarin storyline was one of my favorites from this era. I for one prefer the seduction route. She should have tried cooking next as nothing gets through to a man's soul more than a home cooked meal.

You have hit the nail on the head. She should have stuck the knife through his soul rather than his head. Is a soul located in the stomach?

Lee was improving dramatically from one issue to the next in those days. I love love love the Lady Mandarin saga. Great page!

A very memorable page and an even more memorable image that confirms that I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy. Ouch! Also, WHUMF!

Jim Lee's Wolvie defined Wolverine for me when I was young! Congrats on getting a great piece from that influential period!

I can't believe I am the first one to leave a comment on this (I drafted this comment days ago, sue me), what a perfect Jim Lee piece. This page stands alone in it's layout and action so well that it's hard to imagine you could improve upon it. Those inks? My God, they just sing.

Love the back story on this page. That what it's all about---buy what you love and long for! Congrats Gene. You know my personal collecting taste (you have a bit of that yourself!). But this is a stellar page. Good for you!

Unforgettable page, hyung -- clash of X-Legends, Lee dynamism at its best, and big piece for big piece to get it done! And I hear you there re: fortuitous timing, having owned my EC cover for ~3 months before it got sucked into a cash/trade...

The 2 characters I associate most with Lee's X-Men run taking each other on! Can't beat it. Congrats on getting that itch fully scratched, Gene!
