DescriptionThe first Cloak and Dagger mini-series was a big deal when I started reading comics in 1983, and I quickly became a fan of the characters. When Marvel launched the pair's first ongoing series in 1985, of course I picked it up as well. Rick Leonardi penciled both the mini-series and 5 of the first 6 issues of the regular series, with superstar Terry Austin inking Leonardi to perfection in each issue. Though their collaboration working on Cloak and Dagger was relatively brief, I believe that their work remains the definitive artistic portrayal of the characters even after all these years. The cover to issue #3 is, to me, the best of the relatively short-lived volume 2 series. In the absence of the availability of the vol. 1 mini-series covers (I've never seen them and who knows what they would fetch in the current molten market even if they were to become available), I'm thrilled to own this very memorable cover from the end of my second year collecting comics! I think there's at least a very good chance that one of the mini-series covers is still owned by Austin, but you're right Gene, even after almost 24 years in the hobby, I've yet to see any of those four covers surface. This one is really immaculate though!

In my opinion, one of the most beautiful pieces Leonardi ever created--and a perfect example of the magic that happens when the right penciller is married with the right inker. I feel like a whole class could be taught around Austin's inking techniques on this image! Congrats Gene--very happy to see this end up in such an appreciative home.

Outside of their first appearance cover in peter Parker, this is probably the c&d cover out there. The rendering is amazing. Huge congrats!

I'll have to check out Cloak and Dagger but had I been buying comics in 1985 I am sure I would have picked up this issue. The cover is terrific. Congrats.

I've always said that C&D's combo make 2 of the best designs ever in comics. An artist truly has the opportunity to show their skills and Leonardi CLEARLY does that on par/better than anyone! Love the dynamic nature as well as the depth. These goons are in for it. And you got Spidey to boot - big bonus! All around, so so nice. Congrats!

Congrats, Gene! This is definitely one of the most dynamic and iconic covers of the Cloak & Dagger run. Leonardi and Austin really compliment each other and this is a grail piece. Happy for you but, very jealous, too.

Don't know how I missed this but...WOW! What a stunning Cloak and Dagger cover! Love the composition and the POV! And the inks by Austin are to die for! Love how Dagger's glow slices through Cloak's shadowy cape! Just a first rate pick-up, Dude!
