DescriptionThere's so much I could say about Bama, but I'm just going to leave it to anyone who isn't familiar with his work to simply use the power of Google. Suffice it to say, this is very sad news for me, especially as I only today found out that Peter Caras, with whom I'd enjoyed a personal relationship with, has also recently just passed away. James and Peter were friends and James mentored Peter for several years. They'll both be missed.Social/Sharing |

One of the greatest illustrators/painters of the 20th century.
His was the style that set the tone for the portrayal of Doc Savage.....and for every illustrator/painter that followed him on the character.
A great life well lived !!!

First I've heard of this. Thanks for posting, Ruben. This is such a loss, but I'm glad to hear that Bama lived such a long life; I already knew it was productive. He created some phenomenal, timeless imagery. I never read any of the Doc Savage stories, but there are a couple Doc Savage covers he did that often come to mind.

Just look at that Doc Savage cover. It's out of this world good. The sand-ish colors/hues and use of light are truly exceptional.
I'll add another Rest In Peace towards both artists and I too am sorry for your own personal losses.

A lovely tribute, and condolences on the losses. While it's at least comforting to know he made it well into his 90's and accomplished so much, it still never makes it any easier to lose someone you care about, especially someone of such incredible talent who has left such a lasting mark. Even without reading the books, I was always amazed by those covers. I think I avoided reading the books because I was afraid what was inside could never live up to the front of the book!
