DescriptionWith the New Year almost upon us, it seemed like the perfect time to post this beautiful Winsor McCay Little Nemo in Slumberland from almost 116 years ago. Nemo and Princess Camille bid farewell to 1906 and welcome baby 1907. Purchased as two separate pieces on Bristol board, I had both pieces de-acidified to extend their life and had some surface cleaning done by a paper conservator here in Chicago; I then had them scanned together as they are now framed. They are big & beautiful - hope you enjoy! And Happy New Year!Social/Sharing |

Little Nemo Sundays are almost always genius, but how fortunate to get an example celebrating the New Year, and one which is now 116 years old. The works of art are simply timeless!

If McCay had taught me anything it's to never trust Mary and her little lamb.

Wow, what a piece of artwork! I could get lost in this all day. Was this reprinted in 1947 as per the marking at top or am I misreading that?

I've wondered the same, but I really don't know. I am doing some research and will update the description should I dig up anything!

Congratulations! This is a graceful and imaginative piece and it's perfect for your collection. I think many of us are glad to see a forlorn 2022 lurking in the back of panel 6. Happy New Year!

OMG! What a glorious Little Nemo! One of the best, if not THE best, comic strips in history! I've always admired the brilliant work of Winsor McCay. His art is stunningly gorgeous. Fabulous pick-up. I'm delighted for you (And maybe a teensy bit jealous!)

Now for the hard part: what piece gets kicked off your Featured Gallery to make room for this grail-iest of grails? :)

As you can see, I have not come to any conclusions on that necessary front...but, I am working on it...

A glorious piece from arguably the most important strip by the most important early pioneer and genius of the medium. There is no up from here in comic art. Sure, there might be more expensive pieces but nothing better than something like this. A huge congratulations on the future winner of best CAF strip art 2022!

I am in awe. I think a piece from the series is up there on my grail status list so congratulations. I think highly enough of this series that my printers proof is hanging above my bed helping me when I run off to slumberland.

How is it possible that I never left a comment for this? Absolutely perfect Nemo - featuring my favorite characters, and all that fantastic McCay linework. Spectacular.
