DescriptionHaving posted a DPS from this series (from issue 15, pages 4 and 5), here is another Mike Perkins masterpiece from the series. One has to simply look at this page to marvel at it - the amount of detail is simply incredible. And note, in particular, the use of ink wash in the background to achieve the sense of depth.Social/Sharing |

Thanks so much, Bill! It may be somewhat OT, but many congrats once again on that fantastic Buscema cover homage to FF #39.

A page of all out action! It doesn't happen often, but when it does, Perkins is brings it on full blast in pages like this!

I never imagined I'd ever see Swamp Thing hacking and slashing away at other creatures using hand held weapons, but there you go! I don't feel bad for those creatures though, since they are simply manifestations of the contagion that was running through the forest. Such wonderfully intricate details on the large Swamp Thing figure. The wash used for the backgrounds is lovely as always and I'd be remiss if I didn't again mention how much I love Perkins' facial closeups and extreme closeups. It was also fun seeing Tefé in this story, helping a Swamp Thing who ISN'T her father! Lovely choice , as always, CAB!

Many thanks as always, Rubén! And an excellent description as usual! I should post more of Mike's amazing artwork in my CAF Gallery. Many thanks for helping to make Mike's work available to us collectors.

Super page! There's lots of praise for detail in comic art on CAF, but detail for it's own sake is a total waste, IMO. Perkins has injected so much into these pages, but none of it is supurfluous or showy to my eye. All the details serve to set the scene, tell the story, and it looks amazing. I especially like his use of wash, as you pointed out.

Thanks so much! Yes, it's detail that feeds into the whole, and vice versa. Mike is an amazing talent.

Love the bottom middle panel.
I totally agree. Mike is as great with close-up shots as with other perspectives. He is truly a complete artist.

(Another!) Incredible piece, CAB! Wow...! Mike's and Ram's run was pretty darn thrilling (and so distinctive) for many reasons, not the least of which was the unique presentation of "stuff" we really hadn't seen before... but when they indulged in a situation that occupied more "familiar ground" in terms of mainstream comics (like a straight-up throwdown) they could still blow the roof off the place. You have exhibit A right here, with Levi on a rampage that is supported by the depth and texture of those otherworldly (and gorgeous) washes that Mike instilled into all his swamp scenes. Honestly, it looked like he was drawing pen and ink renderings over sepia-toned photos much of the time... I mean, look at that splashy image... So lovely. Having Swamp Thing's makeshift bludgeon overlap and blow through panel one in its entirety adds even more depth and dimension to the page. Fantastic! Congrats on another stunning piece, CAB (and thanks for sharing it here with us)!

Many thanks, Jason! You must be one of the - if not the - most erudite commentators on CAF. Simply amazing. You have said it all - and more eloquently than most at that.
