DescriptionCover dated February 2005. From a four issue miniseries written by Greg Pak.I’m not going to explain what’s going on here since this page is from close to the end of the miniseries. It’s also been almost 17 years since I read this series, but I do recall that I enjoyed it. Adlard flexes his super-hero action chops as Warlock takes on . . . Warlock?!? Social/Sharing |

Always cool to see the Marvel art of these Image guys.

It's green stoned Warlock that's Adam Strange fighting the red stoned Warlock Delta that is actually controlled by Janie in the last panel. Quite obvious if you kept up with getting stoned while reading this issue and this comment.

I was too focused on the shiny gems on everyone's foreheads. They're way too pretty to be stones.

That walloping 1st panel layout was a Gil Kane staple! It's so interesting to see some of Adlard's work from the first half of his career, even more so because it's from the mainstream superhero genre. Really neat.

Second Ruben's statement above. I had no idea Charlie worked on this book and wouldn't have picked it as his work without your identification. It's really awesome (and rare) seeing someone go from Big 2 work as a relative unknown to an indie title (I guess you could call it that at Image in the early days?) and THEN blow up. Different career trajectory from what we're normally used to seeing.

I think I may be one of the few people who mostly identified Adlard with his pre-Walking Dead work for Marvel. He did three minis that I really enjoyed before the Walking Dead - a Hellfire Club series, a Before the Fantastic Four - the Storms mini, and this Warlock mini. As someone who doesn't like zombies (I remember picking up Walking Dead #1 and putting it back on the shelf), when Adlard replaced Tony Moore I was disappointed because I had no intention of buying the Walking Dead (one of many stupid decisions I've made in hindsight).

Don't forget his X-Files work for Topps Comics, which is completely different.
