I reached out to request this beautiful commission from the legendary Kevin Maguire. I asked for a group of the DC Occult figures, especially from the 1980s Swamp Thing, Hellblazer, The Demon, Sandman, etc in the version of his classic Justice League #1 cover that he's famous for.

A couple months later I got to see Kevin at C2E2 and chat for a bit about our shared love of improv comedy and bringing joy to people, something I believe Kevin has done for years with his art. We had a blast chatting about the arts and I mentioned that I was the guy who requested the DC Occult commission.

"Why did you choose Batman?" he asked, adding that he was the only person who wasn't at all "occult" related. "That was a weird choice."

I argued that Batman was always adjacent to those characters, showing up in Swamp Thing, Justice League Dark, and many others.

Then as a joke, when he sent the art, I took a pic of it and crossed out Batman in red and sent it back, saying "fixed it!".

I still stand by my decision to include Batman.

And I absolutely LOVE this commission, it makes me so happy!

Just realized that Batman's not in the same place as in the original cover, which feels like a missed opportunity for a gag. Still, this is a cool commission idea, so congrats!
