DescriptionThis was a unique journey for me. In all my art collecting before this, things moved fast. I saw a page I wanted, I decided if I could afford it, I bought it. This one was different.At NYCC 2018 Albert Moy had this page on display and I couldn't take my eyes off of it. I kept coming back to it again and again. But Albert's price was hefty, and at the time it might as well have been a million dollars to me. Not only couldn't I afford it, I wasn't even close. On another trip to Albert's table to stare at it again, I saw with dismay that it was gone! "Sold!" Albert told me. So I tucked my tail between my legs and moved on. A few months later my friend Rob Pistella says to me, "Look what I bought from Albert at Nycc" Ahhhh! He had the page. Over the next 3 years I had many conversations with Rob about the chances of getting this page out of his collection and into mine. But Rob loved it too and he had it on his wall as part of his permanent collection! So, a couple of months ago when Rob finally gave me a number, I needed to jump on it. I started to sell other pages I had in order to afford this one. I sold and sold (thanks Glen!) until I finally had enough to buy this page. And the funny thing is when I counted up what I spent on all the pages that I had sold, it came out to almost exactly what Albert was selling this page for all those years ago. So all the (relatively) mini pages I had bought in the meantime had appreciated at almost the exact same rate. It was meant to be! This page has been my art collecting grail for years now and it's sure to be the centerpiece of my collection for years to come. You'd be hard pressed to find another image of silver surfer that does as beautiful a job portraying his gentle grace as he soars through the skyways with the litheness of a dancer. And the words, the words! So powerful! I've never been so happy to own a page before. Thanks, Rob! Social/Sharing |

Exquisite! Ron Lim was my era's Surfer; but there is no denying Buscema's deft hand depicting a pensive and graceful Surfer! Congrats on this monumental addition, and thanks for sharing!

Soars with cosmic elegance in the space ways with an ease and fluidity that only Buscema can provide. The power surges off the page. Its greatness reaffirms the natural order that Silver Surfer splash pages can cause more reaction and commotion than a drawing of a deer in the woods.

Pages like this speak to even non collectors, which points to the greatness of this quintessential splash page. It's got everything- energy, beauty, finality, grandeur and much more. I'm definitely sorry to see this go, but I'm glad it's in your collection Fisch.

"Grail" is an oftentimes overused word in this hobby, almost flippantly at times. Nice to see the term used in its proper form, with all the gravitas it should demand. Much respect and congrats,Fisch!

You cannot mistake a "sprawling universe" by Big John for any other artist. Also, I love how the arc the Surfer takes goes off the page and reenters to head directly toward the reader. Cheers!

Sincere congrats, Fisch. ICONIC. Really can't be beat in terms of SS, JB, OA in general. A perfect shot of the Surfer and that dialogue...the whole piece caps this book off exquisitely.

I can't believe I've never left a comment on this splash, but nevertheless, I have to say it's one of the all time best splash pages I've ever seen. Everything about this splash is extraordinary! I love the composition of the page, with the Silver Surfer soaring through space, but not an empty space, it's a space filled with stars and stellar dust and moons and comets. I love Buscema's skillful drawing of the Surfer here, his body is not standing straight up, it's leaning outward, you can feel SS's yearning to be out amongst the stars, you can feel his love of the cosmos. And the inks! Such superb inking throughout the piece! I love how Buscema combines the classic Kirby Krackle with sweeping cloud-like cosmic gases and a beautiful exploding star above SS's head. Really, I can't say too much about how I'm blown away by this page. Truly one of the best, if not the best, splashes ever. My sincere congratulations.

How on earth did I miss this one? I guess it 's been flying around the universe all this time in another dimension like my brain,lol.Seriously, this is a great one to own and cherish ! I too have an FF page that shows the Surfer in space but not like this one,not a full splash! Congrats on prying it out of the hands of Rob, as he is a terrific guy to deal with !
