DescriptionCHRISTMAS DAY, 1940War rages in Europe, North Africa and Asia. Young Terry Lee, star of Milton Caniff's classic adventure serial, Terry and the Pirates, bemoans "Christmas Day! But the world's in such a mess...there's not much to be joyful about!" Dr. Ping attempts to reassure Terry and Hu Shee, who have been separated from the other principal characters because of a strike by invader forces, by reciting Matthew 24:7, describing how one man (Jesus Christ) had faith in the final triumph of humanity: "For nation shall rise against nation and kingdom against kingdom: there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes in divers places. All these are the beginning of sorrows...and many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many, and because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold, but he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved..." 🙏 A poignant, moving World War II-era Christmas Day strip from one of the greatest comics of all-time. 🙌 Happy Holidays and all the best for 2024, Gene Social/Sharing |

Beautiful strip and great panel design. I thought Jeff Singh owned all of the Terry and the Pirates strips. :) Congrats on adding this to your collection.

I use to own this one... It is a really nice one and being a Christmas one makes it that much more special. I am glad it found its way to Gene's colllection. Such a great final panel.

Milton Caniff was never shy about placing these kinds of hopeful messages in Terry and the Pirates. They were certainly needed in the dark days of World War II. Maybe they're needed today as well. Thanks for sharing.
