DescriptionLet me first say that I am an unbashed fan of Octopussy, Roger Moore's penultimate outing as 007. A lot of people put this one toward the bottom of the Bond films list, but I place it solidly mid-pack and potentially even in the top half of the films in the franchise. Why? Because despite the quips and gags that people criticize about the film, the story about a rogue Soviet general stealing and selling Russian treasures as part of his plan to force nuclear disarmament in the West is suitably bold, original & grandiose for a Bond film, which features a host of memorable characters among both the principal and supporting cast. As such, one would think that when I, a self-professed James Bond superfan, was afforded the opportunity in 2021 to buy the complete original artwork to Marvel Comics' adaptation of the film, I would have jumped all over it. But, I did not. Why? Well, with all due respect to artist Paul Neary (R.I.P.), the comic adaptation was...not great. Not only had Neary not yet quite hit his stride as a comic artist, but I'm told that the assignment was a super rush-job. And, unfortunately, it really shows in much of the art. So, I passed on it, and the art ended up hitting the auction block a couple of years later, where it was bought by a friend who decided to break up the book (also at auction). I wound up buying 2 pages that more than scratched the itch. One of those pages was this one, which features the memorable scene where Bond meets Octopussy for the first time. It is the standout page in the comic adaptation with its splashy panels of the movie's two main characters and I'm happy to own it! Social/Sharing |

I am not familiar with Paul Neary but his faces are amazing. He just has a great style. Octopussy was really good. But I also loved the George Lazenby. The ending blew us away.

Delightful page! Moore doesn't get enough credit for his entertaining portrayal of 007, IMO, and this comic adaptation takes me back

Maud Adams was hot enough to return as a Bond Girl for the second time for this movie! Just incredible how Neary got the likenesses of both her and Moore's more mature look!
