Description

Wow, did I score a great commission! Sean Phillips recently opened up his painted commissions for a very limited time. I absolutely love his work with Ed Brubaker and the many color covers I have seen him do for comics and movies alike. I have several of his black and white pages but never owned a full-color watercolor page of his.

I thought his style would lend itself for something noir and classic, and my wife's favorite film is "In The Mood For Love" by Wong Kar-wai, so I requested a commission of this film. He was very kind and even said he would need to re-watch it.

His final painting is nothing short of extraordinary. He perfectly captures the two main characters played by Maggie Cheung and Tony Leung, her breathtaking dresses, the flower theme expanding to the background, and this handsome man literally on her mind. His watercolors are just perfect. I cannot wait to get this framed and have it be a centerpiece of our home for years to come.

Approx. 11x17 on heavy watercolor paper, signed and dated 2023.

Beautiful Phillips representation of the classic. It's sad to think that the level of freedom and creativity of Hong Kong cinema may never reach this level again and the film would be its pinnacle.

Wong Kar-Wow, amazing director and a great artist choice. Sean has just the right touch and love his use of color.

Loved this movie, and while I wouldn't associate pink with the movie, it really works here. Great composition too, which I'll have to check out sometime :) Huge congrats!
