DescriptionDiscolored, and the content barely mentions anything which ID's itself as STAR WARS, but it's certainly a memorable page from the early 'Stranded on Doomworld' story arc.Social/Sharing |

Holy cow! Absolutely amazeballs! Nothing but memories of Marvel 3 packs bagged together on the spinner rack. Congrats Andrew!

Infantino and Austin should not have worked as well as they did. And yet they DID, proof that Austin inks were more adaptable that one would think.

Issue 13 was the first Star Wars comic I ever read, and that top panel was my favorite. The whole issue didn't seem much like the Star Wars shown in the movie, but the tension and drama the pirate story had was compelling in its own way. Congrats!

Marvel writers understood from the jump what Lucas was doing with STAR WARS: cribbing ideas from other types of entertainment like WW2 air war movies and Japaese samauri films, and retrofitting them into a space fantasy troupe. MARVEL simply continued that process, lifting ideas from 'Magnificent Seven' 'Godzilla' 'Man of La Mancha' and classic pirate movies.
I still maintain that early MARVEL produced some of the best STAR WARS stories in the entire ovure.

Quite the beautiful horizon! Exotic new worlds! It lit our imaginations to go wild for these issues between movies!

The dragons from this storyline were the model for the 1978 Star Wars Xmas Special creature that Boba Fett rides on (in the cartoon). Later this creature is fomally named as the “Mythosaur” in the Mandalorian series in 2023.
