DescriptionThis is a development piece by Mary Blair for the Disney film, Peter Pan. Blair was a huge part of the look and color stylings of most of the early Disney films. This is a peak time for Mary's work. She was at the height of her creative powers and Walt Disney was a big fan. She would leave the studio not too soon after Peter Pan and then return at Walt's request to work on the It's a Small World attraction. She continues to have a huge influence on the animation industry today.I love the mix of blues and greens to create the night scene offset by the little details of the lamp and the pink plants. I also really love the way Blair designs trees and leaves. Done on a thick art board, this painting is 9x7 inches with a few inches of board surrounding it. It's a good size that lets the colors pop quite nicely. Social/Sharing |

Wow. That's a great acquisition. Mary Blair is getting her due these days with the John Canemaker books and the three museum exhibitions in San Francisco and Tokyo. This piece is a fine example and museum worthy.

I almost pulled it off but because of work would have had to fly over, see the exhibit and then just fly back right away. I ultimately decided it wasn't worth doing that to my health just to see the art, but I really had to think about it. =)

Beautiful, beatiful piece. Like you, I love the colors ann the ambiance the lantern creates. I have a few Mary Blair castles in my collection and I love them! You have inspired me to post them up on this site which I will do shortly :)

Everything about this one is a thing of beauty. But the silhouettes framed against that greenish hue... perfection!
