DescriptionBeauty is always in the eye of the beholder...but this one is an absolute stunner. There just is nothing not captivating about this piece - her casual sexiness, the light from the window silhouetting her profile, the softness of her figure or the post-coital suggestion of her smoldering cigarette. As good as it gets in the way of David Wright pin-ups.This piece, entitled ‘Quite Something’, was a pin-up done in original goauche and included in the May 19, 1943, edition of Sketch Magazine, the British illustrated weekly journal (primarily a society magazine) that ran for almost 3,000 issues from 1893 to 1959. This piece was also featured on page 53 of Terry Parker’s ‘Sirens: The Pin-Up Art of David Wright’, the definitive examination of David Wright’s commercial illustration and pin-up work. Quite Something. If I had any brains at all, I should probably just leave it at that. Even among all the other wonderful Wright examples you own, this one really stands out. They say you shouldn't play favorites, but this has to be one of mine. I love the pose. I love her expression. And I love how the contours of the curtain almost seem to be mimicking her profile. Everything about this image is hypnotic and absolutely mesmerizing. I'm in love.

Lovely handling of the paint. The clevel flecks and dabs of paint in the background curtain almost seem to suggest a waft of smoke, missing from the cigarette itself.

Somewhat ironically, even though she's smoking hot the cigarette looks unlit.

The catch lighting on this piece, show's just what a master this bloke was…
