Description

Noir is not my favourite comic genre, my tastes leaning more towards sci-fi, magic and team books. Yet, I really wanted a Frank Miller in my collection, considering his status of possibly the most widely known comic creator beyond the boundaries of the medium.

This piece includes most of the features I was looking for in a Miller example: rooftop action, cinematic horizontal panels, well choreographed battle and sparse but efficient use of backgrounds.

Interesting to compare Janson's inks on this page to his early efforts, or even the first DD issues he did with Frank. The "less is more" approach extends on the inks, with thicker, more economical strokes, that make the action more three-dimensional.

If you want to do the apples and organges thing, you could probably spend all day comparing DD art to DK art (or even Sin City). But when it comes to Frank Miller, it's not the fruit, it's the grower. Which means it's really hard to go wrong with anything from the same orchard. This is simply a spectacular Miller page. Regardless of who's in the costume. Congratulations and Happy New Year my friend. Wow, wow, wow!
