Description

Okay, so technically they're not both Supergirl, at least not in current continuity - Power Girl was originally supposed to be the Earth-2 equivalent to Supergirl way back in the 1970s, so that was close enough for me. Leonard Kirk drew the Peter David written Supergirl for something insane like 50 issues straight, and I thought his work on the title was really great, then he followed up with fantastic work on one of my current favorite books, JSA. During the course of all those issues, he got to draw Power Girl on more than one occasion, and I liked that he drew her more "real" than everybody else does - this super-strong, super-tough woman really looks like she can kick your butt when Leonard draws her. When Valentine's Day 2004 rolled around, Leonard was high on my very long list of people I wanted a commission from, and once Dennisse gave me my "present budget", I went for my new sorta-theme of dual characters that go together (see my Wonder Girls by Mitch Ballard as well), this time asking for "Supergirls" - Supergirl, in her later outfit from when Leonard was on the SG comic, and her "twin", Power Girl, in her original costume. Naturally, I signed up for this commission right when he was neck-deep in drawing the first few issues of his new DC series, Bloodhound, so I had a bit of a wait. But the wait was worth it, in my opinion - this was a heckuva Valentine's Day present! This is supposed to be one of his "convetion style" commissions, but it sure looks a lot like finished art to me. Pencil and markers on 11x17 Bristol.

This is an awesome Illustration! I have a fondness for Power Girl and I think that Mr. Kirk did an outstanding job here. Thanks for sharing! I have a couple of images of Power Girl at my site as well, I would love it if fans of the character would check it out! Ed
