DescriptionA Marvel '70s cover by Kirby has been a target of mine for some time. This has always been one of my favourites. First off, it has a great fight scene, a very well thought out layout, and a nice selection of Avengers being featured.But I also like that the conflict depicted here had a somewhat more profound root than your usual super hero vs super hero "misunderstanding" brawl. The Vision's long-standing quest for his own humanity had been recently challenged by the reappearance of his "brother" Wonder Man, creating increasing tension and jealousy, and culminating in a famous fight scene. The related love triangle involving the lovely Scarlet Witch has been going on for many years in the pages of Avengers, well into the '90s with Byrne's run on WCA and beyond. As to the inker, as was pointed out by Hans and Michael in the comments (thanks guys!), there is evidence that inks are by Sinnott (in particular Sinnott's own website). So I will go with that, in any case inks look pretty good to me! "Let them fight it out", aptly says Iron Man. To me, this is classic Marvel Bronze Age magic! Social/Sharing |

Congratulations - I know this was a long-time goal of yours. Seeing the art at a better size I still can't tell who the inker is. Wanda's face is really precise, but most of it looks like Verpoorten to me (look at this cover for comparison, especially the costume folds and fabric: https://www.comicartfans.com/GalleryPiece.asp?Piece=1535367). It's a mystery.

This is one of the coolest covers I have seen up at auction in a long time, worth every penny. This has to be the ultimate piece of Wonder Man art. Big congrats, and thanks a lot for sharing!

Nice pick-up Carlo! The Jack Kirby Checklist credits both Avengers #157 and #158 covers as inked by Joe Sinnott.

Your Kirby collection is ridiculous, and this just might be my favorite. As a big fan of the Vision/Scarlet Witch relationship, it doesn't get much better than this. Huge Congrats!

When I bought this comic off the rack in the 70s I thought it was an amazing cover and it continues to be definitive Kirby awesomeness! Wish it were mine!
