DescriptionAs I've often stated in private conversations and publicly on the various different shows I live stream on Sunday nights, at this point of my collecting career I'm most interested in the camaraderie shared between collectors than I am in hunting or chasing down more art to buy.Case in point: A couple of weeks ago I was sitting here at my computer when the doorbell suddenly rang unexpectedly. It was the mailman. I hadn't purchased any art of late so I knew he couldn't be delivering any art, and yet that's precisely what he DID. The package was a lot smaller than a typical art package, so I didn't realize what it was until I opened it. It turned out my pal Marcus had sent me the first volume TPB of the current Transformers series, written and drawn by DWJ. My first thought was "Boy, he really wants me to read this pretty badly!", then of course I felt guilty because it cost more to ship it to me than the TPB itself cost. But what I didn't know was that Marcus had bought it at SDCC and took the time to go to the Felix Lu Art booth to not only get it signed, but also remarqued for me, by none other than current industry darling Daniel Warren Johnson himself! So that's what you're looking at here. The front cover opened to the first page, where you see the beautiful, white paint remarque and autograph! Such an unexpected but amazing surprise. So thank you, Marcus, I appreciate the effort and sentiment. I promise this will be nowhere near me when I try my very first root beer float! As for the TPB itself, I read it and thought it was fun. I felt it had some issues that bothered me, but I'm interested in reading the second trade when it becomes available, so if there's any accurate method to gauge whether or not I liked a particular comic book, I suppose that's as good a gauge as any. I was expecting a root beer float review in the additonal pictures of this post. Disappointed.
Glad you enjoyed the book enough to keep reading. Now you can visit Jeff and be able to talk about his page of DWJ Transformers art.

Hah! There's no pictures because it hasn't happened yet! So, no root beer floats at Canadian A&W locations, but the good news is that I just got home from the super market a few minutes ago, with a 2 litre bottle of MUG root beer and a 2 litre container of REAL, actual ice cream. A local brand called Coaticook, named after a small town here in Québec, still making ice cream the old fashioned way. The house brand was "Ice Milk" and the shitty Breyers stuff was "Frozen Dessert". Now I'm going to do a search for the proper way to frost a mug for a root beer float. Don't worry, evidence will be forthcoming!

Hah ha! It COULD indeed! But it's just coincidence, as I already have my strawberry cheesecake for that. Everybody's been in a state shock just because I said I've never tried a root beer float, so as I was already at the store getting the cheesecake, I figured I'd also grab the root beer and ice cream. Now let's see if the online instructions on how to frost a mug actually work! I need it to succeed because Arwyn will be at school for a couple of extra hours and I want to be able to make them for the both of us later tonight! I just took a peek and after 10 minutes still don't see any frost building even though I wet the ooutside of the mug....🤔

These are the things that make one's day - the little unexpected kindnesses that are much larger and significant in the final analysis compared to a lot of the empty disagreements and rancor that sometimes afflict this hobby. Well done, Marcus. And BTW, Ruben, root beer floats are very nice!

And the word grail was never used once, still you needed to watermark this post for safety! ;-p
Super thoughtful and nice of Marcus! He's like the OA Tooth Fairy (sorry but Santa Clause I reserve for Jeff W).
Nice to hear that you enjoyed Vol. 1 enough to check out Vol. 2, I've never been a Transformers guy myself, but I plan on checking it out soon too.
Enjoy the cheesecake root beer float sugar high, birthday boy!

Actually, I have my gallery set to automatically add the watermark to everything I upload!
Yes, he certainly is like the tooth fairy, but better, because we don't need to lose any teeth in order to receive the surprises!
I will indeed enjoy the cheesecake root beer float sugar high. Thanks, man!

Happy Birthday!! And what a wonderful gesture by Marcus! It's so fun when you get something nice in the mail that you weren't expecting at all. And when it turns out to be art AND something enjoyable to read all at once, that's even better. Thanks for sharing!

Awesome gift! Hope you'll enjoy reading it as much as I did. i thought DWJ really deserved the two Eisners he won for writing and drawing it. I'll be interested in hearing what you thought.

Cool that you finally have some friends! I've gifted art to a number of friends and even some strangers but nothing to this guy! It was most kind of Marcus.
