Description

Well, for those of you who have been here for the almost two months' worth of Disney postings (and it doesn’t seem like there were many of you, LOL), thanks for sticking around. If anyone still cares, I think I’ve saved the best for last. Also, for those of you who have been waiting to see what was in this box (see Additional Images), well, here it is. Not sure it was worth the wait, but I for one absolutely love this piece. The size and scope, the line quality, the detail, the warm, earthy tones and subtle shading, the sheer beauty, it all adds up to one spectacular Disney masterpiece.

It was completed in 1992, and done entirely in pencil by Disney artist Al White. Heritage described it as theme park merchandising art, but it’s hard to imagine what something of this size would possibly be used for. It’s 14 inches high, and over 3 feet long. (Maybe it was done for an XXXXXL t-shirt. Ha!) For me, it’s a work of art. Plain and simple. The scan you’re seeing is from HA. They provided both a cropped and uncropped version. The cropped version is what was featured in the auction, and that’s the image I fell in love with. It just appeals more to me aesthetically. So that’s the one I’m featuring as well. For you purists, don’t fret. The full uncropped version is in the Additional Images. Anyway, the piece pretty much speaks for itself, so I’ll just let it do the rest of the talking.

I do want to thank all my CAF friends and supporters for putting up with this personal indulgence. In the meantime, quite a bit of comic art has piled up. Including pieces by some of my favorite artists. So after a short break, I’ll start weekly postings again that should run almost to Thanksgiving. Again, thanks to all who stuck around. Stay safe and I’ll you in a few weeks.

Oops! Spoke too soon. I actually have one more animation related piece, but it’s not a Disney piece, so I’m sticking it on the end of this Disney run. (Are you reading this Will?) So, one more post, then a short break, then back to our regularly scheduled programming. See you next week!

That's really cute, Eric, and very peaceful!  I really don't want to see the "one minute later" on this and wreck my childhood again.

Ha!  Strangely enough, I was never really traumatized by the moment you are referring to.  As a kid, Bambi was never really one of my favorites.  So whenever it was on, more than likely, I wasn't even paying attention.  As an adult, I appreciate it for the masterpiece of animation that it is.  But as a hyper active kid with zero attention span, it was fairly tame compared to other more lively Disney classics.  But yeah, I'll pass on the "one mintue later" as well.  Thanks for the comment bud.

Came for the art, stayed for the description write up. Never get cheated with you my friend. Of course we're gonna stick by you! It pays off like a broken jackpot slot machine.

Your kindness and support over the years is very much appreciated my friend.  Thanks for sticking around.  Now tell me more about this broken slot machine.  LOL

Thanks for buying animation art.   If you are unhappy with the views...2d galleries may garner additional eyeballs as the Europeans seem to really appreciate this stuff.  Nice looking piece. Hopedully, given the size the framing coat won't be more than the art itself.   😁Congrats!

All you have to do to get views on this site is to throw a few famous hero or creator names into the title or put scantily clad ladies on view. Less comments on the 'scanties' but more views.  Repressed? People who describe topless as nude certainly are.

And what an age we live in. An age of wonders. To me anyway, many are on this very site.

Classic art from a classic film.  I really like all the grey tones throughout.  Congrats!

Although I have loved all your Disney posts, you truly have saved the best for last. This tableau really does make me feel utterly peaceful and happy.   The piece is so big that you not only get lovely forest animals, you get families of lovely forest animals.  Really wonderful, thanks for sharing.

Dang it. I thought the 'porch monster' was going to be Batman punching the Joker through a window, while spouting bat drivel about how evil must be stopped and setting a date for the villains next murder spree. Disney. Bambi. You softy old sentimentalist. Does a section peel off to reveal Bambi, or one of the other critters in a super suit?

this is magnificent... a deep dive into the movie, with all the main characters and before anything bad happens

Agreed.  While it may seem unbalanced, with all the main characters appearing on the right (Bambi, Thumper, Flower and Friend Owl), the beauty and quality really runs throughout and never favors one section.  So the piece really dose demand to be seen as a whole.  Thank you for the comment my friend.

This is terrific, Eric (three feet long?!!?), and I think your recent string of Disney posts have been awesome.  I've learned a bunch, seen art I never would have before, and have added a couple movies to my watch list that wouldn't have occurred to me otherwise.  Thank you!

And what is this site for, I ask you, if not sharing our comic and fantasy art bug with others, making friends along the way, and going the long haul together?

Wait... sharing?  Making friends?  Cooperation and journeying together?!? Oh, my goodness...  You've just proven it, Eric - CAF is a Disney movie in and of itself! :)

Wow!  Thank you my friend.  Marcus may be the current king of comments, but you are certainly no slouch in that department.  And while I may get compliments on the effort and thought that I put into my descriptions, I think the same appreciation should apply to well crafted comments.  Certainly there's nothing wrong with one-word staples such as, "nice", "cool", "awesome", and "wow."  I've done more than my fair share of those.  But I can't imagine there's a single person that shares art on this site, who wouldn't be moved by such a touching and personal comment like yours.  And as corny as it sounds, I just have to say it.  It's people like you who make sharing fun.

Well, good grief.  Thank you, Eric - that's very kind. :)

Marcus is, hands down, the undisputed heavyweight champ, power poet laureate, Lennon/McCartney, hard rockin', heavy metallin', steamrollin', soul shreddin', iron cheffin', sweet toothin', desperate houewivin', Rosencrantzin', Gildensternian, knockout king, king of comedy, King Kong Kaiju of contributing CAF commenters.  Anyone who has the great good fortune to receive one of his comments or lyrical "renegotiations" will never forget it. And he makes sure everyone gets one. :)  Thank you from all of us, Marcus!

(All of my yammering above, and no mention of the art... sigh...  Sorry.  I just get so carried away sometimes... :) )

This is a beautiful piece, Eric, and not only because of its size (which is large enough to take you into its world as effectively as its beautifully animated counterpart).  What other Disney work has Al White done?  Great details and environment here; this must be just stunning to pore over.  Congrats on the great pick up, Eric, and THANK YOU for sharing your beautiful art and passion with us.
