Description"I did the costume on the Black Widow. One of my favorite strips from when I was a kid was Miss Fury. They had done a Miss Fury book at Marvel, and when I found out they had the rights to her, I said I'd love to do a Miss Fury book sometime. I had done an updated drawing of Miss Fury, and Stan said, "Why don't we redesign the Black Widow costume based on Miss Fury?" So I took the mask off her face, and made the Black Widow the one in the patent leather jumpsuit. That was why the Black Widow changed." ~ John Romita, 5/19/98If you had told me in April of 1970 that I would one day own art from that month's Spidey comic, featuring John Romita's glorious rendering of the Black Widow in her new costume, I would have said "I'm six years old. Are you a friend of my mom?" If you waited until December of 1970, after I had a copy of Natasha's solo story in Amazing Adventures #5, I'd have said "Oh, OK... I get it. I'll still be obsessing about this in my forties?" Social/Sharing |

This is a gem..it is a rare redesign that outshines the original costume but this became an instant classic

If I ever find the shower page (Amazing Adventures #5, page 3), I shall retire from the hobby and wander over the Earth, never reaping a harvest again, but proselytizing the glory of Colan/Everett Black Widow art, and healing the sick, cleansing the lepers, raising the dead, casting out devils... as freely I have received, so shall I freely give!

If you ever get that page you will spend the rest of your life drooling over it. You are not preacher material. Definitely not Messiah material. Admit it. Lol. You are in love with pieces of paper, like the rest of us saddos.

Yowza! Beautiful Romita/Mooney Spider-Man page! I especially love the top three panels, but the whole page really brings back the early 1970s. I loved that era of ASM and this piece really recalls that time. Great pencils by Romita and fantastic inks by Mooney.
