DescriptionSaw this previewed on Instagram and reached out immediately. A variant cover for the new Skybound Transformers title. I've been looking for something from Lewis for a couple of years now. It's no secret I am a sucker for tonal pieces and he is doing it better than almost anyone right now. I particularly love the high light values on the flat metallics. Thanks to Dan and Lewis for a good transaction.Social/Sharing |

Don't know all the Transformer's names, but I love the character at the bottom. The way that one appendage is blurred to convey motion and speed is absolutely fantastic! And there's a very defined sense of spatial separation that the artist achieves in his depth and layering of the image. The lowest and highest figures in the foreground, the largest figure occupies the central space, and the smallest figure provides the distant focal point. And yes, the variance of tones on this is both exceptional and impressive. Congrats on a great piece!

Insightful comment! Thank you, Eric.
That bottom character is the aptly named, Rumble :)

LaRosa's artistic mastery enters the realm of magic. I shudder to utter praise out loud as all attempts at a piece have slipped through my fingers. "Look away folks, nothing happening here. Go about your business". Jokes aside, a warm congratulations!

Ooh-wee-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh, ooh-wee
Wash, wash, wash, wash
Ooh-wee-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh, ooh
Walk like a man
Oh, how you tape eject me down to size
Rumble wavy lines to no end (ooh-ah, ooh-ah, ooh-ah, ooh)
But my Transformers said dial him up, get cover
The art is now comin' to a friend
(He said)
Walk like a man, talk like a man
Walk like Decepticon
LaRosa’s worth Energon on earth
So walk like Decepticon
Oh wee ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh, ooh-wee-ooh
Wash, wash, wash, wash
Ooh-wee-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh, ooh
Bye, baby, a Lazerbeak maybe
Gonna get the art somehow (ooh-ah, ooh-ah, ooh-ah, ooh)
Soundwave'll be cryin' on account of no air brushin'
Oh yeah, Starscream’s who's laughin' now
(I'm gonna)
Walk like a man, fast as a fan
Walk like a man for two
I'll tell the world, I hit eject, girl
And walk like a man from you

The action is incredible, the tonal work is amazing which helps create a high level of depth, and the background has that beautiful blur as if a portrait was taken with a high amount of bokeh in the background. Also love the the explosions. Classy piece.

I love this, man! Especially Rumble there, doin' what he do! And if I'm not mistaken, Soundwave's pose is one we've seen many a time, maybe on the original toy packaging?! Great mix of cartoony comic book style with the techy, blocky look on al the characters. And the grey tones! I gotta look into LaRosa's work more. Big congrats, Chris!

Fantastic Transformers #1 variant cover by Lewis LaRosa! Love this action-packed scene full of Transformer goodness! LaRosa does a stunning job of using ink wash to create characters with depth and weight. I especially love the way he blurred the arm of Rumble to create a sense of motion. Terrific pick-up, congrats!
