DescriptionI've got a story. A friend, Joe, really likes Moby Dick by Herman Melville. It's his favorite book. He also likes comic art, and, back in the day, he melded these two loves when he got Mike Kaluta to draw his version of Ahab vs the whale. There were not as many Moby Dick pieces on CAF back then, and it kind of stood out amongst the site's more usual superhero fare. So, one day, when I saw Gil Kane's cover of Marvel Classics Comics No. 8 on a dealer's site at a very friendly price (possibly because, oh the irony, of a water stain), I remembered the Kaluta piece and thought of Joe.I don't have qualms about helping collectors spend money on their comic art collections (Bwa-ha-ha!), so I wrote to him and said, "Hey, man, this dealer's got Gil Kane's Moby Dick cover at a sweet price. It looks really great! Do you want it?" As it turned out, he did, and It is now one of his prized possessions. However, while he had acquired the cover OA, it set him off on a mad quest to find one of the interior pages which were drawn by the great Filipino comic artist, Alex Nino. Alas, he has thus far been unable to find one. So, long story short, at some point during the last year, we were messaging each other, and the idea was floated that, since he could not find the interior OA, why not try and get the esteemed Mr. Nino to do a commission? Well, by gosh, Joe told me that Mr. Nino thought drawing Captain Ahab harpooning the great white whale would be a great idea and that the master had agreed to draw it. "Well, shiver me timbers!" said I, and began the lookout for Joe to upload it to CAF so that I could see the results. However, before doing so, Joe wrote to me and said, "Hey, man, Alex Nino did two versions of the Moby Dick commission, and he'll sell the second one at a sweet price. It looks really great! Do you want it?" Yes, dear reader, the shocking EC-style twist ending to my little story is that Joe also has no qualms about helping other collectors spend their money. (Good Lord! Choke!) In a long ago previous career I fished with my Dad. He caught a whale, by accident. Let's just say the fishing gear and boat didn't do to well In that endeavour.

That story would have made an excellent... Far Side cartoon. Glad that you (and your dad) only are escaped to tell me.

I'm glad you got this one. I like it as much as my own. It has a different feel even though it's the same scene. "To the last I grapple with thee!"
