DescriptionRecently, a collector friend, Joseph Normoyle, who lives in the New York area, was helping out Rich Buckler when he did a sign and sketch at a local comic shop. As I live in Japan and was unable to attend, he asked Rich if he could do a small commission for me and the artist agreed.I thought about Deathlok, of course, and I kind of thought it would be fun to have Deathlok face Mr. Buckler's old Atlas Comics creation, Demon Hunter, and I still think that would be really cool, but my heart told me to ask for a different pair. Back in 1978, I bought the Superman Vs. Shazam Treasury Edition that Rich and inker, Dick Giordano, worked on with the expectation of a really good throwdown between the two male stars. However, when I read it, Mary Marvel and Supergirl kind of stole the show for me. Rich's Mary, in particular, is one of my favorites, so, I asked him to do the ladies in full team-up mode flying together to take on the bad guys. I'd like to give a big shout out to Joe who took a day to take a train into the city to visit Mr. Buckler and pick up the art for me. Also, of course, I'd like to thank Mr. Buckler for a speedy commission experience. It is always a thrill to get a commission from one of the comic book artists who filled my childhood with wonders. Finally, I'd like to thank my wife who agreed to get this for me as part of my Christmas present. Social/Sharing |

You don't have to thank me about taking the train into the city for the day, it was fun to see Rich for a few hours and I had other things to do. But you can thank me for going to the post office after I do cause who likes standing on line! And you're welcome for everything to do with this piece. i was glad to make it happen. I know you would have done the same.

The Buckler / Giordano team at DC was a great team up for it's time.

For whatever reason, I think the 1970s versions of MM and SG are the best.
