DescriptionThis was on my wish list long before I even started the Re-Legion commission series. I became a big fan of Barry Kitson's art work when he started on the Legion. I really notched up buying original art when Supergirl was added to the mix. I had met Barry through mutual friends Chad & Miki at the Baltimore Con over the years and he was a great guy. He is not just talented but very gracious to his fans. However because of his schedule and his very detailed work he doesn't take on commissions. He does draw sketches at Conventions for his fans at no charge but there is always a long line and he doesnt just rush a sketch, so he does a handful over a weekend. Over five years later, my turn finally arrived. Barry had seen my Re-Legion series so he knew that I would take his single figure sketch and work it up into a cover. I had kept this cover on the backburner for a long time, knowing that Barry would do a great job. He saw the Girl's Love cover and he pencilled, inked and then to my great suprise broke out the paint box to do this glorious Infectious Lass piece. For those of you not familiar with this Legion character.Infectious Lass is the Tyhoid Mary of the 31st century. Drura Sehpt is from Somahtur, a planet whose inhabitants' bodies are homes for colonies of microorganisms. These microbe colonies can quickly infect other living bio-organism's while the host remains unaffected. Drura was the first of her race to bravely travel to the United Planets, to see places that her people were always concerned possibly infecting. She was confined for sometime to Medicus One, a medical satellite that orbits Earth, due to her races serious health risk to the population. When Drura was finally released she learned about the fabled team of galactic teens and auditioned at a Legion of Superheroes recent candidate tryouts. Taking the name Infectious Lass she showed off her powers by making Star Boy sick, but unfortunately couldn't control it. Druna gave him way too strong a dose, and got rejected. Feeling unable to prove her true worthiness as a possible Legionnaire she stayed on earth to try to gain better control of her unusual abilities. Druna was another hero who the Legion of Superhero rejected, that would go on to join the Legion of Substitute Heroes. Polar Boy who was the leader of the Substitute Legion was impressed and scared how Drura could induce illnesses, he hoped the new addition would cause there reputation to upgrade. He was aware that an enemy can’t really commit crimes or take over the world if they have a massive head cold or are uncontrollable vomiting. Polar Boy understood that with her powers, Infectious Lass could come in pretty handy in a fight. Respectfully, if she was up against a more powerful organic enemy she cold quickly take down the villain with a serious illness. And with this idea in hand she became a member of the Subs. Later, she and the Subs found an opportunity to prove themselves once again when Earth was overtaken by Earth-Man and his Justice League of Earth. In battle, Drura was cast into the timestream and found herself in the 21st century. She did not arrive on Earth, exactly, but found herself in the company of other strange heroes from throughout time. This band of unlikely allies was led by Doctor 13 and fought against a near-omnipotent group of overlords known as the "Architects." After many years of lonliness ( hence the cover choice ) and despite her ability to induce nausea and vomiting in prospective love intrests she found a companion with an iron constitution. This is pure speculation on my part but I suspect she may turn up in the new series " Legion Lost " where several members of the Legion are back in our time battling a mutating alien virus..just the sort of challenge that is right up her street.. The cover is beautiful. Chris Ivy picked up as Barry did on the original color and tones of the Girl's Love comic and came up with a great cover logo. Barry knowing my fondness for the character, even sneaked in a Ferro lad figure in the distance for me. I am really thrilled to add this gem to my collection. A great piece from a true gentleman.
