Description

"REMEMBER, REMEMBER, THE 5TH OF NOVEMBER..."

Here is David Lloyd's cover to issue #8 of V for Vendetta - for me, hands down the best cover from the DC/Vertigo series, and the only cover to feature both principal characters. While Watchmen may have had a bigger influence on comics, V for Vendetta, with its uncompromising political commentary and David Lloyd's now-iconic stylized Guy Fawkes mask, has had a greater impact on society at large, in my opinion. Both are certainly great works of the medium. And, while WM is certainly the more polished of the two series, for me, it's V that is the more thought-provoking and remains more relevant than ever nearly three decades on. It's certainly my favourite...er, favorite, of Alan Moore's creations!

I am incredibly thrilled and honoured...er, honored, to add this piece to my collection. Many thanks to the previous owner for entrusting me with it.

Agree with everything you say (and think I posted something similar years ago when I got this!!). One thing I'll add is that of the major '80s works that he's best known for, V is Moore's own creation, rather than his riff on someone else's (although I see, whether he intended to or not, parallels to Batman with Evey/Robin, Shadow Gallery/Batcave, et al). That's true for MIRACLEMAN, SWAMP THING, KILLING JOKE, and even WATCHMEN. V is Moore in "angry young man mode" and so we get his most passionate work and most personal statement. Still, I expect you now to get a nice WM example at some point to pair up with this...if you don't already have one up your sleeve! Congrats, Gene. Of the 10 covers, maybe 3-4 are truly significant. And this one's been my favorite of the bunch as well. Thanks for posting the gorgeous scan...I will come visit often!

Another museum worthy acquisition! So many didn't know what to make of this story at the time, and yet so many of us still think about it almost 30 years later.

This is a terrific cover. I also think that one of the main reasons V for Vendetta is more though of these days, is that the movie is much better than Watchman. Also, the mask/costume is pretty popular too.

I've actually owned this since the beginning of the year (i.e., pre-slowdown)! I just felt it would be appropriate to wait until the 5th of November to post it. :)

This is probably my favorite cover from the series. One of Alan Moore's best stories and you're right-- the themes are still relevant today. Congrats Gene!!!! 8 )

I should check CAF more often. Great acquisition, Gene. For many Watchmen is *the* series but like others, I always felt that V was the more personal and visceral Moore series and which continues to have relevance today. I suspect for most collectors there are 2 covers for the series which are going to be the most desirable and you've landed one of them. Congratulations on a cornerstone piece.
