Description

One of the greatest comic and fantasy artist ever, Jean Giraud aka Moebius had been famous for years in Europe when he made his commercial splash in the US via Marvel's publication on Blueberry and Moebius graphic novels in the mid 1980s. Moebius' came out to the San Diego Cons in 1986 and 1987. It was amazing to watch him drawing for hours creating beautiful drawings -- taping into his internal creativity and allowing it to free flow onto the paper. I've never seen anything like it since and doubt that I ever will. Perhaps the only other with such a flowing, productive, creative hand was Jack Kirby. Like Kirby, Giraud seemed to possess a genius that was as natural as breathing is for us. I know it has never been that easy and natural for any artist, but in Kirby's and Giraud's cases I have to wonder. "Starwatcher In Doorway" is a lovely 5" x 9" drawing by Moebius. 1986. Purchased at San Diego in late 1980s. Pencil and ink on bristol.

It's very hard to believe that I'm the first person in 6 years to leave a comment about this beautiful piece! Oh how I wish I could have been there at SD with you to watch this guy in action. It's only as of late that I've "discovered" Moebius/Giraud for real. This drawing must be incredibly special to you. Thanks for sharing!
