DescriptionWhenever I win a listing on eBay, I always inquire with the seller if s/he has any other affordable pages on which s/he is willing to take an offer. I always want to get more bang for my buck, especially if I can get multiple boards for a single shipping fee. I picked up this Cyclops page for a song in a package deal that netted me 13 boards at once.Dan Norton is a relatively unknown comic artist with a limited number of credits to his name. I was certainly unfamiliar with his work when I picked up this page. But man, it's certainly striking. Clearly influenced by Japanese manga and anime, his work really pops here. The second panel also puts me in mind of the styles of such artists as Tony Harris, Dusty Abell and Bart Sears. Obviously, what really grabs the eye here are, well, Cyclops's pants in Panel 4. The tremendous inking of the speed lines conveys the movement of the hero's quick dive incredibly well. Aaron Sowd's inks - both for those speed lines and the panel borders - are really bold, while the fine lines for the other details on the page are meticulous. I also love how the speed lines on the pants are parallel with the shelving in the background, used to convey perspective and depth in the setting. I also appreciated how the pencils and ink artists have manage to create an overlay effect over the bad buys in Panel 2 without a traditional overlay. I really need to sit down and read this story Cyclops story for context to figure out what those additional, ghostly figures are meant to represent. The page is signed by Sowd in the lower right corner of the board, and there are little dabs of whiteout at the edges of a couple of panel borders to tidy up the page a bit. The reverse boasts a standard copyright stamp as well. Now, this is identified as Page 5 at the top of the board, but I see that this was the second of two stories in this issue of the X-themed anthology, meaning there was no way it was the fifth page. Given the lack of issue number at the top of the board, I suspect this was an inventory story, and the artists didn't know in what issue (or perhaps even in what title) it would eventually run. I don't have the issue in front of me at the moment, so I can't confirm the actual page number. If I happen upon the correct information (or someone lets me know), I'll update this listing.
