Description

Here's an odd one for you all.

This page, while delivered on a standard blueline formatted page of the era, was pasted on a rigid artboard for some reason. We can assume it was done by someone in the art team, since the page AND art board have been trimmed along the sides and corners, as was typical for the time. So the pasting was done before reproduction.

No idea why this was thought necessary. No other Golden page I've seen has this feature.

Also note that every single word ballon and text is a paste-up. Unusual for this art team at this time.

The previous owner purchased this from Golden's agent at the time, (plus it passes muster to my practiced eye) so it's authentic.

Missing are the color surprints. Golden was clearly using photographic closeups of human tissue as inspiration for the shrinking effect on the surprint art.

Surprints must make reprinting hard.

It's been pointed out to me how the central column of art gets narrower as the characters descend, subtly reinforcing the 'shrinking' motif of this page. More clever design work by Golden and Mantlo.
